Who you are:
You’re a passionate dog lover, who really wants what’s best for your dogs, as well as for your home life and family. You’re smart and eager to learn. You love so many aspects of being a dog owner, and would love to be even better in dealing with your dogs. Your biggest need right now is creating changes in the areas you are not as thrilled with. There are just some things you don’t know, some areas you’re not sure about, when it comes to owning a dog.
What your issues tend to be:
You’re super loving and super committed to your dogs. In fact, some people joke that you treat them even better than people. Dare you confess that , some days, that statement is so true. You do actually prefer them to humans. You are eager to learn how to make changes with their behaviour, reduce your frustration and to comfortably and confidently be able to have your dogs around other people. The changes aren’t happening quickly enough for you. All of this is creating stress in your life. Sometimes it requires that you leave your dog locked in a back room while you entertain guests, or you find yourself making repeated trips to the Vet in hopes that, maybe, they’ll be able to help you. Because you “don’t know what you don’t know”, how do you take steps in the direction that will give you the results you want. There’s a lot of energy going out, but the results are not what you want them to be. You know you can’t keep doing the same things anymore, because you keep getting the same under-whelming results. The truth is you sometimes doubt yourself, wondering if you can really be a successful dog owner.
What you need most right now:
Your primary focus needs to be on creating a strategy for behaviour change, and taking some action to make permanent changes in your relationship with your dog. It’s all about creating a plan and then implementing the plan consistently, so you can see results quickly. At the same time, it’s important to look at the reasons why the issues started in the first place, so that you can make lasting changes. It’s also about getting your entire family on board, so that you can restore harmony in your household, and fully enjoy the rewards of dog ownership.
